I remember in the last tutorial Lorna asked me 'what question do I want to ask myself?'. There are a lot. We were always told that MA applied imagination is a course helps you to ask a better question. I have been browsing through the notes I have taken during this year in class and one line really confirmed myself that I did the right choice was when Richard said : product design is about how can you design a better umbrella but MA applied imagination ask you how can we keep dry when it rains.
Throughout this MA journey we have had lots of 'Chicken soup for the soul'. It was like we had been given tons of Tedx life talk each Monday especially Tuesday. But the most significant change happened while I execute my project. As I kept reflect on my project and myself I start to aware what I am incapable of, what I am bad at, and how can I reach my expectation when there is a gap between my ability and the goal. Additionally, I am glad that tried other disciplines and got out of my comfort zone. I have learnt that there are lots of possibilities in my career and there are lots of other things can make me happy other than design. Instead of specialized in one field, I'd rather be interdisciplinary. Furthermore, I am being really brave during this whole time. I am always believed as a shy and introvert type of person. I had to push myself to go out to talk to strangers (for my case the target might be even extreme ) and ask people to do favor for me. I found out that I cared too much and it is unnecessary to do that. And there is nothing to be afraid of, just take the first step and everything would seems much easier. Today is the last day before finally hand in. I know no matter what I write later than today would not be counted. But I already got the habit of reflecting on myself and access on my progress (the alarm at 11 pm everyday since April). I still remember the first synopsis I did for applying this course. And I found it out and compared them together. The study proposal was something I expected to get after this course. Maybe different from some other students who write it only for applying the course, I conceive myself as a very determined person, I understand what I need to learn, and this is what I want. So my ultimate goal didn't change. For my study proposal, I added some designs that I admire and found experimental. After all this year, reflecting on what I made, I found a great resemblance. Would I be proud of myself and willing to become myself if I were the one year ago? I think the answer is YES. But one year is very limited, compare with students from RCA, they would create more integrated designs. If I could do this MA again, I would plan more intensively to get better outcome.
Spent 2 days at home reflecting on my whole MA journey. Lorna always suggest us to draw a map before/after the journey. I think this is the biggest reflection I have ever done. I also start to imagine what my journey be like if I had the chance to do it all over again. I listed the stakeholders that I ever had conversation with and I think they are not enough. I should have meet more and different variety of people.
But the good thing is I finally mastered the basic skills of using AI. How to raise people’s awareness by letting them question and think about the phenomenon of mass surveillance?
How can we protect personal information by subverting personal image? In a society of digital surveillance, how can a Privacy Wonderland playfully raise awareness to protect personal information? How can a Privacy Wonderland playfully/ subversively raise awareness of protecting personal information in the society of digital surveillance? How can we protect our digital information in this society of electronic surveillance? How can we protect our personal information in the future society of digital surveillance? How can Privacy Wonderland be created to raise awareness of protecting personal information in the future society of digital surveillance? In a society of digital surveillance, how can a Privacy Wonderland raise awareness of the need to protect personal information? How can we balance smart technologies while we travel? How can we prevent technologies form invading our online privacy in this surveillance society? How can we prevent technologies form invading our privacy in this surveillance society? What will a future without privacy look like? How can we balance smart technologies with our daily life? Back to become a Interface designer again. Who is afraid to create aa APP in weeks. I'm not. I have done this several times. I remember Leo used to ask me why you always want to put things online? We have to, it's the digital age. The one of the easiest way to make money and let others to know your idea.
I was not very sure of the name of this app. because I saw several other designers named their design as blabla-currency or privacy-blabla. But who cares. All I need to do is to create things better than theirs. This is only a demo but I still plan to make a video and tell people how to use it. So I probable need further constructions. Not sure if the time would be enough for the final weeks. But I am seriously busy these days. Need to print the journal and the twitter and many other ending works to do. Let's ge crazy. But recently we have to make a decision because we need to hand in the last version of our WYHI. I have talked to Lorna several times. I'm really glad that she has been pushing me forward and ask my to try different words and really ask myself what I have been doing , what my question really is. Also, I couldn't imaging how hard my journey would be without Christie. She is so helpful. She could find the right word that suit my artifacts are telling and that's what I am incapable of.
The process of editing the bibliography is very hard as well. I learnt form another pattern of the Harvard style online but it turns out that there are lots of different ways of doing it and UAL need to do it the same way with CITETHEMRIGHT, which means I need to do it all over again. just finished the workshop with Graham about the Lego Serious play. Not many people showed up today. So just a small group of us. I felt that was very rude, especially I saw a lot of people cancelling Christie's meeting. That was a big inconvenience for other people when you change other peoples plan at this time. At the beginning, we were asked to create a structure to explain why we sign up. I created a cube, because I wanted to know some techniques and theories about this game. I think this is very logical. And now I am doing my final summerize and refinement and creating a concrete and solid result. Then we shared out ideas among the group. After that, we started to build how we usually learn things. So I created a very large installation explaining my process of my MA journey. I thought it would a good way to demonstrate my progress when Lorna always ask us to draw a map. I felt this is interesting and would be a very creative idea to show my journey on the final assessment. Why not try that. Another thing that I like about this workshop was that Graham asked us to reconstruct our model after the sharing. That's a very good way for me to reflect. research sources
