Based on the brainstorming were done yesterday, i feel positive about this project. There are lot’s of ideas that can be developed. This feels like project A the journey project. There are endless of ideas but there is no strong one. Then we can push ourselves harder and come up with a perfect one in the end. Our meeting weren't being held today because it’s Chinese New year and most of our team member are from China. But i didn’t celebrated it at all, i went to CSM early and talk to Wednesday about our ideas. Over heard that some groups were talking about philosophical ideas about time. But our group was like thinking about usual and normal ideas. I guess this is the problem about being in a Chinese group. We are from the same culture, we are young, being taught the same way. But the good thing is team members are easy to be convinced.

Valentine’s day is about study at home. I finally feel that i am doing the wrong thing about the roller project. On Wednesday, A-mao offered that we can create a new group. That’s the spirit! The Fetish team sucks and that doesn’t mean i cannot learn anything from this project and not sentence of death. I should keep generate ideas. I feel exciting again.
I spent a lovely afternoon in RCA School of Architecture’s Work in progress Show. It’s obvious that students studying in RCA generally think much deeper than in CSM(just by comparing to our shows). There is a significant difference in the quality and thinking behind what students are doing in two schools. Students in RCA are doing much meow profound project and there are lots of joint project in the show. They think about the issue in an MA and PHD level that are rare to see in other schools. I can see that students paid lots of efforts on it and each of them have distinctive creative abilities.
I talked with my friend about my team members. They told me that those two are quiet tricky to deal with because they had been working together in the journey group. Others don’t like them too. I though the problem was me, now i know i am a normal one since others don’t think they are easy going as well. Today was a little wasted because i didn't do anything on the Fetish food. The homework they left for me is to research on APP in the market, I think that’s easy to deal with which just need one day. And Sunday is a good day to do that.
In the evening there is our class with part-time students. Richard introduced a new project: Time machine, one i knew before. It’s a 5 weeks project and i think we don’t need that much of time. If the idea came then the project is done. Now i have an idea about culture exchange https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eyROTdBUs4 //Preserving and sharing cultural traditions through food// what we cook defines who we are and where we come from. Sharing food can connect people, friendship, community. Introducing the cuisine of the country to a foreign audience can gain awareness for the country itself. Cooking and sharing food can preserve culture outside its cultural and geographical context. People are emotionally connected to food, in order to gain influence and raise brand awareness about country itself in an international setting like what Thailand did. Food is an easy and effective way to introduce unfamiliar culture to foreign audience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTs7KxD-V-0 There is a market that has not been explored. I offered them my idea but no one sees the value in it. And i let them to convince me the benefit of Fetish food. i was not quiet convinced. They are good at talking and they are decided. I think there is no point in wasting time here. I still cannot see the value in doing fetish food. Since last week i pay too much attention to the Journey project, i did not spend enough time for the new project. In the meeting, most of our group were hours late which makes rest of us very unhappy about. Each of us presented our ideas: food as a culture exchange, food and art, food in different culture, food charity in London and the freaking food fetish. I didn't expected that some people in our team have such strong personalities. Without the agreement they wrote in the 300 conclusion that our topic is food fetish which surprised me a lot. In the afternoon discussion with our tutor Lorna. They presented the idea of food fetish and out of the blue, Lorna liked it! I was speechless, then i asked them to bring another topic which been thought carefully. Since most of them are agree with food fetish, there is only me being the bad guy who needs to go back home and come up with a new idea.
This is the part i hate about, when i get home and thinking from their perspectives, i felt there is some thing seriously wrong with is topic. Then i texted in the WhatsApp group: What the users can benefit from it( using roller and this topic)? If we chose this topic, what are the positive effects for roller and users? And their reaction really astonished me because they said something that i feel really rude: We have been talking about all day long. seriously i am not going to say the same thing again and again. Bring something new to the table. I can feel the emotion in the language and i sense this is gonna be hard to work with people like this for weeks. Now i miss my journey group. Group members are from different background and only me have worked in project about interaction design. They don't know how to work for an APP company and i offered but they don't accepted which makes it really difficult to communicate. Today i am going to change my strategy and think from the users benefit and create a topic that would worth my 1 month time to do. since our group did lots of work this week. All we need to do is to get ready for Q&A session. And here are the questions that we prepared:
Why did you take photos from our eyes? to present what we actually see. each people see from their own perspectives. Why did we stand in circle? combine perspectives. to illustrate different perspectives. What kinds of research you used? online: pictures, videos. talk to people, communicate. how do you think your performance is related to the idea of showing the feeling of presence? replicate, the presentation is itself an experience that requires presence. the audio is to make people think/reflect their state of mind. the audio represents how our mind usually work, busy with so many different thoughts, that we cannot always control. Any similarity between your journey and the Rollerr project(Shared presence)? the importance of presence. not easy to be presence. What did you learn from this journey/project? team work. new software. friendship. London’s history. coping with bad weather. time management. culture. what kind of transport did your group undertaken? why? walk. short, be with people. 'what is the most important thing that you all took away from this project? what surprised you about it? what will you remember about it in ten years' time' quoted from the Brief we do not notice from everyday live. sth we ignore. different perspectives. bung’s birthday. friendship. city of London. What kind of preparation you did before you start taking the journey? transportation. had some idea. What is your intervention in this project? presentation. take the photo. What is the most impressive memory you guys get from the groupworking? how did you get the idea of evoke the feeling of presence? when we were taking the journey, the most positive overwhelming feeling we all shared was that we felt present and free and light. Journeys come in all shapes from mental to physical, and presence is required to get the most of it. we rehearsed the videos and prepared our exhibition. The presentations cracked on. all other groups presented in a different way, but i still think our team showed our journey in a most immense way. Admittedly, the best way of presentation is to show not to tell. I think Green team’s video is cool, and that is something i should learn from. we were really nerves before the show, but it went on smoothly even there were some accident happened.(Gloria started the video late, people couldn’t hear the audio because the room was noisy) We were so glad with the audiences’ responses. Everyone joined, tasted, smelled, touched everything we prepared. I felt so lucky to work with my teammates. We all have different strength and we cooperate well. Hope the roller team can work this good. It was really interesting to see people's reaction on our show. They interacted with each other like what we did on the journey. Some sit back on the chair and refuse to join, that's their state of mind. This presentation was really a success that i was so proud of our team. Team White forever. Today's meeting, we talked about how to present our feeling in a physical way. Afternoon is not a good time to do brainstorming and i felt bad that i didn't contribute new ideas as much i could. Anyways, our team was pretty productive, we finished our target at the very end of the day.
7 Physical Experiences: 1. Hugs (Free Hugs) - Emotion; Interaction; Discomfort 2. Ice Bucket (Cold) - Representation of City and State of Mind 3. Coffee Beans + Warm Bag - Warmth and Coffee Culture 4. Exotic Food - New Experiences and Adventures 5. Laughter - Sharing Joy and Happiness 6. Shakespeare Poem - History 7. Picture Ring - Represents the idea that the journey is continuous; Looking at things from different angles I was a little confused that whether this is too much for the audience, and i couldn't balance from a overall situation. But be it, our team love the idea and we came to this together. Let's prepare this and see what happens next. |
