To keep the Phase 1 presentations to 2 days, we will each have (only!) 5 minutes to present, with a further 5 minutes for discussion. In order to looking ahead to Phase 2, (starting Monday 3 February!) so...
- speak first and foremost about WHAT your design is (including what it will do, who it's for, where it's used, what it will look like, how you will build your prototypes, etc.)
- refer back to WHY it is this way (the insights you gained from your exploratory Phase 1 work and the key decisions you took) only where necessary
We will pin up PeDeTe sheets, so can refer to these and are encouraged to also bring along other material (e.g. material samples, sketch models or interactive sketches, perhaps videos on chosen blog entries, etc.)

My project is about the cooking experience of young adult in the busy city life who begins living on their own and learning how to cook. After the users research in phase 1 i found that cooking beginners always seek for the quickest method to get their food prepared. By doing so they are losing not only the understanding of what they eat, but also the preparation stage of cooking and the opportunity of physical making. My aim is to design muti-functional kitchen ware in a cooking tools kit and an APP that can teach cooking in a quick, enjoyable and right way for beginners.
After gathering and analysing the result from questionnaires and interviews i summarized few characteristics of those cooking beginners. They are inexperienced, still enjoy to be protected, busy but lazy, careless, most of them got low income and live in small space, and most of them are electronic addict who would use their phone when they are cooking. Then i analyzed the products in the market base on their latent needs. I hope my design could be safe and easy to learn, have emotional and ergonomic care, fun and efficiency to use, use green material and have bionic shape. I analyzed the interface design based on UI design, function of the application, and UI flow. I found there are something i can learn from them and make it more appropriate for beginners to use and learn.
The kitchen ware design should focus on the multi-function of the tools, it will allows users to buy less products pay less money with more function and save more space in their kitchen. Like this ladle can also work as pasta spoon and spatula. The large spoon can also be measuring cup. The peeler has a fruit squeezer on the other side. The knife can also work well as garlic press. The technology part of my design would start with applying ergonomic on the tools. In the final define phase i will do 3D modeling to produce them by CNC, 3D printing and handcraft. Then i can do the design for touch screen and coding for the APP.
I consider the proportion of pe de te of an integrated product design procedure is like the famous painting : Mondrian composition with red yellow and blue. These color should be balanced and coordinate with each other. In my project people made up the most important part of the whole process, so the project should start with observing people’s behaviour and end up with satisfying people’s needs. For the phase 2 Design goes along with further user research. In the end, technology will make design come true.
